One of my favorite southern dishes!
When I arrived in Columbus, Ohio November 2013, I reunited with some of the best southern cooks alive today (my mother, grandmother and several aunties); literally hundreds of years of cooking experience in one kitchen. When you are in the presence of such an accumulation of knowledge it can be a little intimidating. But then again, what sets Southerners apart from others in the world is their ability to have fun in the kitchen! As long as you have really good cooking skills and your food is delicious they don’t care about anything else. It’s all about learning and sharing; no culinary mumbo jumbo is necessary because it’s not a competition or cooking match. Southerners are only concerned with passing down wonderful techniques to the next generation, and I love them for that.
